Last week we did a message that looked at the role of the Holy Spirit and Discernment in decision making and knowing God’s will for our lives. We looked in depth at Galatians 5:16-17 which describes a continuous battle that takes place between our flesh and the spirit. When we believe in Jesus Christ as Savior we are indwelled by the third person of the Trinity which is the Holy Spirit. Inside of the Trinity is God the Father, God the Son who is Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit which is the spirit of God/Jesus.
The other thing that happens when we believe in Jesus Christ is that we still possess a sin nature that wants to rebel against God and that is biblically referred to as the flesh.
This week I want to look at the role of the mind in this battle between the flesh and the spirit.
The first thing I want us to realize is that we who believe in Jesus Christ as Savior always have enough power at our access to win every battle because the Holy Spirit’s power comes from the power of God and Jesus.
Ephesians 1:19-21, “and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.”
Having access to enough power to win the battles that we have with the flesh is not the problem. We have enough power to control the thoughts and attitudes of our hearts and minds because we can access the same power that raised from Jesus from the dead to do so.
