Next week a new year will roll around. What will 2020 bring our way? Will it be better or worse than 2019? Many times, the better or worse is measured by the circumstances that will face us in 2020 in comparison to those we have faced in 2019. Is that a good way to approach the new year of 2020? I believe that comparing year to year is a poor way to approach life because circumstances from year to year will change. Some circumstances in 2020 will invariably be good and in the same way others will be very challenging.
Here are some things to consider for those who claim Christ as Savior. The choices we make in 2020 will have a bearing on 2020. Sinful choices that we make will have consequences. When I taught 7th grade bible classes at Faith Christian I regularly reminded my students that God allows us to choose our sin, but He is the one that determines the consequences for our sin. That is true because God is just. On the other hand, choices made in obedience to God and His word will have blessing attached to them because once again, God is just, and blesses obedience.
For the sake of this message I am going to assume we understand and agree about the statement I made about sinful and obedient choices because that will have a bearing on what 2020 will be for each of us.
During the rest of this message I want to challenge each of us to be proactive about the kind of year 2020 will be.
