How Does God Forgive?
I want us to take a deeper dive into how God forgives.
Psalm 103:1-14, “he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. 11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. 13 As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; 14 for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.”
None of us would have any hope if God held us responsible for our own sin. However, instead of holding us responsible for our sin God does not treat us as we deserve or repay us as He could. He forgives us and as this passage states He has cast or removed our sins from us when we believe in Jesus Christ as Savior. I don’t think any of us human beings can fathom the love, mercy, compassion and forgiveness that God continually shows us through Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 1:18, “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”
God’s forgiveness is complete and life changing. The blood of Christ truly does wash our sin as white as snow when we believe in Him as Savior.
When we believe in Jesus we are freed from the bondage of sin.
Romans 6:18, “You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.”
