We are kicking off 2019 with a series entitled “ALL IN”. What do you think about when you think about the term “ALL IN”. One of the first things I think you must think about is passion. without passion I think it would be impossible to be “ALL IN” to anything. Sometimes the phraseology is used by women and men that I am “ALL IN” to her or I am “ALL IN” to him.
Here are some definitions of passion as recorded in Webster’s dictionary:
- intense, driving, or overmastering feeling or conviction.
- ardent affection: love
- a strong liking or desire for or devotion to some activity, object, or concept.
- an object of desire or deep interest.
How does passion relate to our relationship with God? Think about this ……… How much passion was involved in Jesus going to the cross to die for our sins? I think that is easily answered in scripture.
Matthew 26:36-39, “Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” 39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
I want you to notice the passion inside of those statements that Jesus made to Peter, James and John. So indeed, Jesus was very passionate about going to the cross for you and me.
How should passion play into our relationship with Him?
