The weary old farmer hooked his thumbs into his dusty bib overalls and looked over all he had done asking himself, “Is this how God felt?” He remembered to thank Him in that moment. He thanked Him that planting had gone smoothly and for all the help it took every year to get it done, but mostly thanked Him in advance for the harvest to come as His words stirred in his heart.
Therefore, I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. Mark 11:24
If you remain in me, and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. John 15:7
He was a faithful and righteous man and he had done this job all this life, first with his grandfather as a young man, and then with his own father before taking over the operation once his dad’s vision failed. He knew some years the harvest was so bountiful there wasn’t enough storage for it all and other years the crop insurance barely got them by. But one thing remained, God is good and he had always been able to provide for his family so as he looked out over the freshly planted soil, he was abundantly thankful.
He delayed another moment longer, knowing this year would look very different soon because of the acreage to the north of the house. He had planted sunflowers for the first time ever and his wife and grandchildren especially were very excited to see the beautiful flowers grow and bloom. He knew every mom and photographer in the county would be stopping by to take pictures against the beautiful backdrop and he smiled to think of the cars slowly creeping by, taking in the view.
His buddy down the road had planted them last year and they watched in amazement as the young flowers turned their “faces” to follow the sun’s path each day. This phenomenon, which he knew had to do with photosynthesis, but not much more, reminded him of our need to worship God, it is what we are created for.
The people whom I formed for myself that they might declare my praise. Isaiah 43:2
Just as the sunflowers are created to follow the earthly “sun” in order to grow and mature. We too are created to follow the now heavenly “son” to mature and grown.
If you are resisting God and His word, His truth, for any reason
today release it to Him! You were not created to carry ANY burden! No burden is too heavy for Him!
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11: 28-30
Lots of bold red words for us today to remind us that Jesus is speaking to us! Are we listening?
May God bless you this week as you hopefully learn to live as the sunflowers do.
And yes, here are some pictures of our 3 “littles” because I was one of those moms that said, “Guys, let’s go take pictures in the sunflower fields!”
