My plan for this summer was to read the entire Old Testament.
It is now September 8th and with the end of summer fast approaching I admit I am only at Numbers Chapter 8! I have about a million pages left to read in 15 days!! Needless to say I am not going to meet my original goal and do you know why? Because I got stuck on the book of Leviticus for 2 months! And do you know why? Because the book of Leviticus is boring! There! I said it! I’ll be the bad guy; some of the Bible is just plain dull!
BUT, I am not going to quit this time because I know He is teaching me more than just the laws for how to deal with a leprous person (what even is leprosy?!) or the acceptable burnt offerings for sin or how to construct the tabernacle (why would I need that?) He is teaching me to be obedient.
This has been on my heart for several years now and I have to admit I have never read the entire Bible. I read my Bible every day but because I skip around I can’t say I’ve read every word and that bothers me. Because the Bible isn’t like any other book that you would pick up and read beginning to end, it’s alive! Ok, now I sound like Dr. Frankenstein but it’s TRUE! He teaches me every day through various verses and chapters but as I push through this assignment He is going to teach me even more about myself and more importantly, about Him. The more I learn about His character and who He is the more I fall in love. And love is definitely something our world needs more of; so if reading seemingly boring laws and instructions gets me closer to Him then I will happily do it!
I leave you with this blessing from Numbers 6:24-26:
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.”
I pray His face will shine upon you and give you peace this week and always, my dear friends.
Love,
Katie
